価値交換工学のAri Hautasaari特任准教授が担当する全学自由研究ゼミナール「The Value of Language — From Multilingualism to Technology（言語の価値 – 多言語主義から技術まで）」が全日程を終了しました。2021年から始まり、今年で5回目となる本ゼミでは「言語」という普遍的なテーマを、人文科学、工学、ビジネス、HCI（ヒューマン・コンピューター・インタラクション）といった多角的な視点から深掘りしています。
本年度の講義も、言語を軸に、その歴史や哲学から近代のテクノロジーがもたらす変革、オンラインコミュニティ（WikipediaやStack Overflow等）やソーシャルメディア、フリマアプリといったデジタルプラットフォーム上で言語が創造する価値など、Ari先生らしい幅広い内容で構成されました。
また、本ゼミの大きな特徴の一つともいえるのが、価値交換工学の共同研究先である株式会社メルカリからゲストスピーカーを招く特別セッションです。今年はmercari R4D Lab リサーチャーの藤原未雪氏より、フリマアプリで出品者とAIが協働で作成した商品説明文が購入者の商品選好にどのような影響を与えるか、というテーマで講義頂きました。
研究と実社会の両面から、次世代のコミュニケーションのあり方を模索するアプローチは、まさに価値交換工学の先生方ならではの視点と言えます。大変貴重でユニークなゼミとして、来年度の実施にも大きな期待が寄せられます。

Project Associate Professor Ari’s Specialized Research Seminar 2025: The Value of Language – From Multilingualism to Technology
The 2025 Specialized Research Seminar “The Value of Language – From Multilingualism to Technology,” led by Project Associate Professor Ari Hautasaari of Value Exchange Engineering, has concluded.This seminar deeply explores the universal theme of “language” from interdisciplinary perspectives such as the humanities, engineering, business, and HCI (Human-Computer Interaction).
The lectures are structured from the broad perspective characteristic of Project Associate Professor Ari, covering topics from the history and philosophy of language to the transformation imposed on language by modern communication technology, and the value created from language on digital platforms, such as online communities (e.g. Wikipedia, Stack Overflow), social media and flea market apps.
Another distinctive feature of this seminar is the special session inviting a guest speaker from Mercari, Inc., the joint research partner for Value Exchange Engineering. This year, Miyuki Fujiwara, Researcher at Mercari R4D Lab, gave a lecture on the theme of “How the collaboration of humans and AI in writing item descriptions affects the seller’s behavior”.
Exploring the future of communication and language use from both the research and real-world perspectives, this is truly a distinctive seminar and unique to the researchers of Value Exchange Engineering. We look forward to the course offered next year as well!
